Standing committee on the rights of prisoners

People go to the correctional facilities, such as prison or jail, because of their bad behaviors toward society. They have to spend a specified period of time” behind bars” as a form of punishment. But nowadays prisoners are suffering from other problems that violate their basic rights as human beings. In Lebanon, prison problems have taken place not only in men’s correctional facilities but also in women’s, and have become one of the most determined problems that our society should consider. ”An analysis of the diverse problems in the Lebanese correctional system shows three major problems: violence (torture, rape), lack of educational programs and inadequate medical care” (prisoners: a human, 2009). This report will draw the attention on prisoner’s conditions in prisons, will show issues of their rights violation and will shed lights on several drastic solutions.
